FUNDRAISER FOR AGE UK SHROPSHIRE, TELFORD & WREKIN 

Wine Tasting at Tanners, Shrewsbury

 

A group of local Shrewsbury people, keen to do something for the older members of their community, have recently formed the Age UK Shrewsbury Supporters Group. They held their first event last week – a wine tasting for 40 people at Tanners in Shrewsbury. Tickets for the event sold out within 45 minutes of being available on their facebook page and the event reflected that success.

People arrived to a glass of Prosecco (tasting number 1) and a guided tour around the historical Tanners cellars. As laughter echoed around the building, members of staff uncorked a further 5 types of wine which were enjoyed along with tasting notes, canapés and words of wisdom from Graham Mason.

Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin works to enable older people across the region to love later life. The charity offers advice, information, companionship and support, to name just a few. The fundraising group meets once a month after work ‘for a beer and a brainstorm’ with an aim of bringing some exciting events to Shrewsbury that get people, of all ages, together, to raise funds for the charity. Chair of the group, Kate Taylor, who is the Director of Shropshire-based Middle Farm Press, says:

“Meeting people and interacting is such a huge part of life for everyone, and these events will hopefully give that concept a nudge in the right direction. We’re planning all kinds of things, from Secret Suppers and Dinner Dances to Picnic Swaps and Spooky Cinema Screenings. It’s a great group of people, growing by the month, and a fantastic charity we’re happy to fundraise for. It’s a win-win situation as people seem enthusiastic to take part in new and fun social events and we’re helping to fund some great charity initiatives that help the older members of our society.”
